Whoosh! teaches in accordance with the ASA National Plan programme (detailed below), which promotes a steady, fun and rewarding progression from having never entered the water to accomplished swimmer.
Your child will be personally taught by Lisa Chapman, an ASA qualified and CRB cleared teacher with over 20 years experience. Lisa has swum at all levels, ranging from Club to Olympic, therefore whatever your child’s ability or confidence level, Lisa has a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience to pass on.
Our classes will never have more than 8 pupils at a time and only 6 on the lower levels of the National Plan enabling maximum personal attention for each pupil that will improve development. Our classes also always have exclusive use of the pool to avoid distractions and improve concentration.
In addition to Lisa, who is an RLSS qualified lifeguard, Whoosh! classes are also supervised by another RLSS qualified and CRB checked lifeguard, ensuring your child is in a completely safe environment to learn and give you complete peace of mind.
We aim for your child to have lots of fun and enjoy themselves but at the same time benefit from learning to their full potential. We include games to promote learning in a more interesting way as this also breaks the ice for the more nervous swimmers.
Having been a swimmer all her life, Lisa is fully aware that learning to swim can sometimes be a very scary prospect. With Whoosh! this will never be the case. Whilst we encourage pupils and are keen to help them progress, we always take the time to slowly build up your child’s confidence and never ask them to do anything they aren’t ready for.
Our classes are 30 minutes long with a 15 minute debrief period at the end of the session. During the debrief not only can the pupils ask questions and get Lisa’s feedback, but parents are also invited to have Lisa answer their queries and discuss their child’s progress.
On top of the 15 minute debrief after each session you will be given a full printed report at the end of the term explaining how your child has progressed, improved and excelled.

These are just brief guidelines of The National Plan. There is a lot more involved and we set our own standard from the core structure laid out by the ASA.
Below is the method we use to teach swimming throughout the National Plan, as it allows the progress to follow suit naturally.

NB – One important factor that needs explaining is the progression which the BLABT method supports. I will not move a child up a level until they have correctly and efficiently performed all the core structure of their current stage. We do this to avoid bad habits forming and to encourage good quality progression.
